Selma University Receives the "Retool Your School" Grant for $250,000

Selma University is the recipient of a Home Depot Retool Your School Grant in the amount of $250,000. The purpose of the grant is to renovate the campus’s cafeteria. The University is one of several HBCUs who received an award during a reception in Atlanta, GA on Monday, April 14, 2025.

Selma University received a preservation grant from the National Park Service in the amount of $750,000 to begin a restoration project on Foster Hall. Congresswoman Terri Sewell came to the university campus to present the award.

Foster Hall was built in 1910 and named for Miss Susie C. Foster, who was president of the ASMBC Women’s Convention at the time of its construction.  Foster Hall, the oldest building on the university campus, was built as a women's dormitory.

The Ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. presented Selma University 

with a $50,000 donation to the University's endowment fund.  The donation 

is from the AKA's HBCU Endowment Fund.
